Big Fifth Inning Propels New England Win Over Virginia

New England put up six runs in the fifth to an 11-1 victory over Virginia on Sunday. Zak Joslin, Theodore Van Dussen, Charlie Oneil, and Tristan MacAllister drove in runs during the inning.

Virginia opened up scoring in the first inning. Hudson Toone grounded out, scoring one run.

New England evened things up at one in the bottom of the first inning. Chris Biasotti singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

New England pulled away for good with three runs in the second inning. In the second, Oneil tripled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs.

New England tallied six runs in the fifth inning. New England put the pressure on, lead by doubles by Joslin and Van Dussen, a single by MacAllister, and an error on a ball put in play by Oneil.

Thomas Shullman was on the mound for New England. Shullman lasted five innings, allowing two hits and one run while striking out five.

Brooks Johnson toed the rubber for Virginia. Johnson lasted two and two-thirds innings, allowing six hits and five runs while striking out two. Aiden Foster threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

New England totaled 11 hits. Shullman, MacAllister, and Joslin all collected multiple hits for New England. Joslin, MacAllister, and Shullman each managed two hits to lead New England. New England didn't commit a single error in the field. Charles Ellis had seven chances in the field, the most on the team.
