The 12u Windham Wildcats are heading to Branson for the Cal Ripken Major/70 World Series following a successful campaign. Under the direction of manager Matt Case, the Wildcats went 11-2 while taking home the New Hampshire 12u Major/70 State Championship.

Battling the Weather

Case was able to lead Windham to success through a season filled with rainouts and delays. The poor weather throughout the course of the season led to a schedule crunch as games kept getting postponed. "We had to play five games in six days and, pitching wise, that was a little tough, but we made it work,” Case said.

The weather also played a part in deciding which pitchers were allowed to pitch on certain days. Rules state that pitchers can only throw a certain number of pitches over a certain number of days. As the schedule compresses, the number of pitchers available decreases. For Case, these pitcher guidelines were not something he was accustom to. “As a high school coach, it’s a little different for me adjusting to the pitching restraints at this level,” said Case.

Preparation is Key

While the tight scheduled provided some hurdles for Windham, these tough experiences can get a team ready for future challenges. "The schedule gave us some experience before the World Series," Case said. "In Branson, the schedule is going to be five games in five days which is something I've never done."

With Windham's championship aspirations and the trip to Branson right around the corner, Case believes the Wildcats are ready for the experience. "It’s fun to be a part of a team that can bat and pitch the way they do and we couldn't be more excited to be heading out to Branson."
